Lapulapu (based on Çilapulapu; : ᜎᜉᜓᜎᜉᜓ, : Lápú-Lápú) ( 1521), also known as Lapu-Lapu, Si Lapulapu, Salip Pulaka, Cali Pulaco, and Lapulapu Dimantag, was a ruler of in the . Modern Philippine society regards him as the first Filipino hero because he was the first native to resist . He is best known for the that happened at dawn on April 27, 1521, where he and his soldiers defeated Portuguese explorer , who was killed in battle. Magellan's death ended his and delayed the Spanish occupation of the islands by over forty years until the expedition of in 1564.
